Learn About Our Dental WarrantyIV Sedation Dentistry
Relax Through Your Dental VisitDental anxiety is a common problem that can keep patients from pursuing much-needed oral healthcare. Dr. Anderson understands how strong these feelings can be, which is why he wants to help his patients have a truly comfortable and fear-free experience in the treatment chair. IV sedation dentistry can make all the difference! Patients who undergo this type of dental sedation will be relaxed enough to drift off throughout even the most complex procedures. Most don’t even have any memories of the visit.

Get the Answers You Are Looking For
If you tense up just thinking about visiting the dentist, then sedation dentistry might be exactly what you need to take care of your teeth without the stress. Of course, if you’ve never experienced sedation dentistry before, then you likely have a few questions about it, and you’ll find the answers to some of the most common ones we receive here.
Have a Different Question? Ask Us!Q1. What types of dental sedation do you use?
Dr. Anderson offers three types of dental sedation—nitrous oxide, oral conscious (pill), and IV sedation dentistry. Nitrous oxide is the lightest form, oral conscious dental sedation is a little stronger, and IV dental sedation is the most potent form. Based on your situation and needs, Dr. Anderson can help you choose which one would be best for you.
Q2. Is sedation dentistry safe?
When applied by a professional like Dr. Anderson, sedation dentistry is extremely safe. Nitrous oxide has been used for over 100 years, and after an appointment, the effects wear off very quickly. This means a patient can even drive themselves home. Oral conscious sedation dentistry and IV sedation dentistry are used all over the world as well, and thanks to Dr. Anderson’s extensive training and experience, you can have peace of mind no matter which type he uses.
Q3. Does dental insurance cover sedation dentistry?
Some dental insurance plans do offer coverage for sedation dentistry, but only if it is a medical necessity (as in a procedure shouldn’t be performed without it). Other plans have no such coverage. That’s why we recommend looking over your plan or discussing it with our team so you know what to expect when it comes to your out-of-pocket cost for dental sedation.
Q4. How long does it take for sedation dentistry to wear off?
For nitrous oxide, it typically wears off in a matter of minutes. With oral conscious sedation dentistry and IV sedation dentistry, the effects can linger for several hours, which is why we recommend that a patient organize for someone to drive them to and from our dental office. In most cases, a patient feels completely normal by that evening or the next morning.
Q5. Will I Still Feel Pain When Sedated?
While sedated, you will still feel Dr. Anderson working in your mouth, but the sensation will be so dulled that you won’t experience anything close to pain. You may feel some pressure or movement based on what he’s doing, but because you’re sedated, it should be easy to remain calm and comfortable. Plus, time will move by much faster while you’re under, so even if you do feel something, the appointment will be over before you know it.

You can learn about the state of your oral health and get to know Dr. Anderson and our team without spending a dollar.
