How Invisalign Works

Unlike traditional braces that move your teeth with metal brackets and wires, Invisalign guides your teeth into place with clear aligners. In short, Dr. Damon Anderson will provide you with a series of trays that are custom-made to move your teeth from where they are now to their ideal positions. The key is wearing your aligners for 20-22 hours a day and switching to the next tray in the series on the correct day (which is usually between 7 and 14 days). Every six weeks or so, you’ll return to our office so we can ensure your teeth are tracking properly and give you your next batch of aligners.

Indications for Invisalign

Fortunately, Invisalign is suitable for a wide range of patients, including those who are struggling with crowded teeth, gapped teeth, and uneven bites. If you’d like to learn more about the process of addressing these orthodontic issues, read on:

Crowded Teeth

Overcrowding is an extremely common issue that can negatively impact three aspects of your smile: the way it looks, how healthy it is, and how it functions. Luckily, Dr. Anderson can create custom aligners that will place just enough pressure on your teeth to guide them out of their crooked positions and into their properly aligned ones.

Gaps Between Teeth

If you aren’t happy with your smile because of the spaces between your teeth, then we recommend seeing if you’re a candidate for Invisalign! The clear aligners have helped countless patients with this orthodontic concern have the perfectly straight teeth and beautiful smile they’ve always wanted.

Bite Alignment

Bite issues encompass everything from overbites and underbites to crossbites. The good news is that with a few additional orthodontic accessories, like attachments, Invisalign can correct these issues as well, making your smile look and feel better in the process.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Simply put, the cost of Invisalign varies. That’s because there are numerous factors that go into making a treatment plan, starting with the complexity of your case. We also need to determine how many aligners you need, if you need to straighten one or both arches of teeth, and if we need to include additional accessories, like rubber bands, to achieve the desired results. The good news is that there is one thing that’s universal: our team will go above and beyond to make understanding the price easy.

Invisalign FAQs

How Do I Clean My Invisalign?

Typically, there are two ways to clean Invisalign aligners. The first approach is to use standard oral hygiene tools. In contrast, option two uses items sold by Invisalign’s maker.

With the first method, cleaning your aligners is simple. Just use a soft-bristled toothbrush on the trays and rinse them throughout the day. However, don’t use hot water for the rinses – it’ll permanently warp the aligners’ plastic.

Of course, there’s also the choice of using branded items. Invisalign sells a unique cleaning system designed for its aligners. This product has cleaning crystals that “shake out” loose food debris and plaque.

Does Invisalign Give You a Lisp?

Invisalign can cause lisps in some cases. Still, whether it gives you one will depend on the situation. Each patient will respond to treatment differently.

If you experience a lisp, it should be minor and fade away shortly. The issue will only stick around as you adjust to your aligners. Once you alter your tongue placement, you can speak normally. This effort will only take a few weeks at most.

Ultimately, the best way to overcome an Invisalign lisp is to keep talking. Frequent speaking will cut down the adjustment time. That means your tongue will quickly learn to maneuver while aligners are in your mouth.

What Are Invisalign Attachments?

When it was first made, Invisalign could only help with simple misalignments. However, it now has accessories that can address more severe issues. These extra tools are called Invisalign attachments.

Unlike the clear trays, Invisalign attachments are bonded to your teeth. These bumps are secured with resin and strategically placed. From there, they grip your smile as the aligners guide it into place. The only exceptions to this rule are Invisalign buttons – special attachments on your trays.

Whether you get attachments or buttons, Invisalign still has the perks of removability. It’ll make eating, drinking, and oral hygiene simple.

Is Invisalign Cheaper than Braces?

It’s crucial to note that no two smiles are the same. Given this fact, the cost of an orthodontic service will vary by patient. The final estimate will depend on factors like your misalignment, oral hygiene, etc.

All that said, Invisalign usually costs about the same as metal braces. The upper price range for both options is around $5,000. This expense can rise or fall based on your oral health, commitment to treatment, and more. In other words, treatment shouldn’t cost you more than other options.

At the same time, Invisalign can indeed get pricey. This procedure isn’t usually covered by dental insurance. Even so, all patients say it’s a great investment that pays off in the long run.
